Biography:
Zhou Juan was born in Kelamayi, Xinjiang province, China. Graduated from Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM) in Beijing with her BA and MA degrees in Composition, Zhou Juan was awarded as the first Edgar Snow Scholarship student from CCOM and went to University of Missouri - Kansas City (UMKC) in 2007. She is currently pursuing her doctoral degree at UMKC, studying with Dr. Chen Yi, Dr. Zhou Long and Dr. Paul Rudy. Her awards include 2ND Golden Bell Award of Chinese Music of The Association of Chinese Literature and Arts, XII GEDOK (Verband der Gemeinschaften der Künstlerinnen und Kunstförderer e.V.) International Composition Competition for Women, 3rd “Liu Tianhua” Chinese Traditional Instrument Chamber Composition Competition, and 2008 UMKC Composition Chamber Competition. She received scholarship from People’s Scholarship of Chinese Education Ministry, Viacom-Sumner M. Redstone Scholarship, Bao Steel Education Award, Fuchengxian Commemorate Scholarship Foundation and Edgar Snow Foundation. Her music has been performed and recognized in Beijing, Hong Kong, Germany, the Netherlands and the United States. During her graduate study, Zhou Juan has been teaching composition, orchestration, counterpoint, music appreciation and contemporary harmony at CCOM, Conservatory of Central University for Nationalities in Beijing, Beijing Collage of Education, UMKC and Smith-Hale Middle School in Kansas City.
